"Life sciences" in american high schools is mostly green propaganda, with dumbed-down (and mostly factually incorrect) bilogy and ecology thrown in.
"Earth sciences" is similarly mostly consists of disjoint tidbits from geology and meteorology - with the rest being same green propaganda (with emphasis on pollution and global warming - without any mention that the pollution is significantly worse in socialist and semi-socialist ecomomies and that global warming is a hypothesis based solely on computer simulations run to the point where error accumulation gets to about +/- 100 degrees Centigrade - so the "scientists" involved take average of several similar models to improve "confidence").
"Space sciences" is a bunch of astronomic trivia with NASA apology mixed in. Try to ask any "space science" teacher why CMB variations are so important - all you'll get is total incomprehension. Same for the three-body problem, same for metallogenesis, etc. If you really want to have fun, ask why the sky is mostly black at night:)

As for the groups of sciences... it's kind of hard to group real sciences in that way - too many cross-links.
