well, this can be fixed ;-) get some legal education, so you could understand law concepts such as intent, treatment of civilians in war, and etc.
P.S. think about it this way, if you were a doctor, and, god forbid, you couldn't distinguish the subtle differences between viruses, cancer cells, and etc., your patients could die because of your poor judgment. then, what would it be? malpractice, criminal negligence or a first degree murder? death is a death is a death. but, i bet, in that case you would become much more interested in subtle differences in legal definitions.
